Merceditas Mañago­ Alexander

Merceditas has danced with Doug Varone and Dancers, Pepatian, Elisa Monte Dance Company, Ballet Hispanico, and independent choreographers such as Sara Rudner and Joyce S. Lim. She is originally from Manila, Philippines, and began dancing classical ballet at age six. In 1986 she moved to New York City to work with Feld Ballets/NY. She has taught classes at Dance Space NY, which became Dance New Amsterdam. While working with Doug Varone, she taught at The Ailey School,  92nd St. Y, Movement Research, Mark Morris Dance Center, the Metropolitan Opera (Company Class), and Sandra Cameron Studio.  She has taught at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Performing Arts, Marymount Manhattan College, NYU/Tisch School of the Arts and Hollins University, as well as Sarah Lawrence College where she teaches currently and has been on faculty since 2003.  She holds a BA from Empire State College SUNY. She has presented solo works at Free Range Arts, Dixon Place, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, and Danspace Project/St. Mark’s Church.
